Extract a Google Data Studio Theme from an Image
There have been many cool and useful new features launched for Google Data Studio lately.
One of the ones that caught my eye was the ability to extract a theme from an image.
I’ll show you how to do this and give you some examples of how the colours in an image can become the theme for your report.
Below is a report created using the current default theme available in Data Studio.
If we scroll down in the column to choose a theme we see an option to ‘Extract theme from image’.
We can either upload an image from the computer.
Or we can paste in the URL to an image.
For example, let’s say we want to use the colours from this photo of a flower.
Data Studio generates three possible themes we could use.
We can then click ‘Apply’ and the theme is applied to our report.
We now have our new extracted theme that we can adjust or make changes to.
Examples of Data Studio Themes Extracted from Images
Below are some examples of the various images, the three themes extracted from them and the theme applied to the Data Studio report.
Example One
Below is an abstract image that we can use to create some custom themes.
We get a mix of dark colours and grays for our themes.
Example Two
Below is a photo of the Cape Town City Hall with the South African flag projected onto it.
We get some brightly coloured themes for our report.
Example Three
Here is a photo from a pool taken in the Cederberg, Western Cape, South Africa.
It gives us some blue and white colours for our themes.
I hope this new feature enables you to make some cool and creative Google Data Studio themes for your reports!
